The Artist

Hello! I am Maya Doss- a 26-year-old, Cuban American, multidisciplinary artist residing in Muncie, Indiana. I have had a deep love and commitment to the arts since my youth. Art is a healing channel through which I have found empowerment, community, and growth. Ever since I was a child, I would draw for hours on end. Now my art has matured, but it still heals the inner child within, and creating it keeps me vibrant despite the world’s grit.
My artwork awakens our divinity by bringing art, beauty, and aesthetics to the forefront of day-to-day life. In a time where consumerism has replaced intentional design and aesthetics with convenience and mass production, I reimagine, reinvent, and redefine 2nd hand treasures with my artistic touch, alchemizing trash into treasure. I believe my unique artistic eye orchestrates line, color, pattern, and shape harmoniously. I consistently explore new ways of visually expressing my visions as a way to heal myself.
My hometown is transforming itself by nurturing and promoting local art and since this is something I have long invested and believed in, I am honored to play my part in their efforts. Self-expression through the arts is what has saved my life several times, so I continue to bring art to my community through local events and shows. I also have online platforms, helping me connect with a community outside of my neighbors. I have found this helps me make art accessible, connect with local creatives, and nurture my dreams.
I am deeply inspired by the wonders of nature and share the beauty I see through not only the subject matter but also by what I choose to make art out of. I believe strongly in the magic of breathing new life into something that would otherwise end up in a landfill. Themes of nature’s beauty with abstract and surreal twists give my artwork resonance, or an archetypal language, that helps translate the themes I explore. I have always been inspired by my individual perception in the collective story, the wonders of the universe, death and rebirth, the spiritual and tangible, relationships between visual elements, and by the beauty found in the mundane and forgotten.
Art is as old as the first human, so it enriches our spirits and it connects us to the world around us. I love collaborating with others, bringing their visions to life with my artistic skills. I have been a part of the local art and music scene since I was 15, meaning I have been building connections and creating art in the community for over 10 years. The vast mediums I work within and the various styles and content matter I create reflect my very own ever-changing nature. I never wish to be defined, only expressed.
